Posted @withrepost • @hhkborough Two Ho-Ho-Kus Police officers were recognized for outstanding police service at the Mayor & Council meeting last evening, November 22, 2022.

Ho-Ho-Kus police officer Garret Sweetman #49 was presented a Lifesaving Award for performing the Heimlich maneuver on a patron who was not breathing at Matthews Diner on October 21, 2022. Ptl. Sweetman heard the call go to Waldwick and was passing the diner at the time. After several attempts, he was able to dislodge the obstruction and the party started breathing again. Numerous patrons tried before his arrival and were unsuccessful.

Ho-Ho-Kus police officer Samuel Kim #51 was presented a Commendation Award for his efforts in locating a female party who had bailed out of a stolen vehicle which Saddle River Police were attempting to stop in the early morning of August 4, 2022. After many hours had passed, Ptl. Kim located the female walking in the road on Addison Pl. He stopped the party in question and spoke with her until the arrival of Saddle River who took her into custody for further questioning. It was later determined that the female, a juvenile, had an active warrant out of another jurisdiction for armed robbery and aggravated assault.

The awards were presented by Chief of Police Mike LaCroix and Police Captain Greg McBain in the Borough Hall Council Chambers.

🔵Link to donate in bio !! 🔵 🧔‍♂️Borough of Beards is an annual, multi-month fundraising campaign sponsored by multiple agencies and their communities.

For 2022, Borough of Beards will be benefiting two charities. Month #1, November, will be benefiting “Rare is Beautiful”.

The mission of “Rare is Beautiful” is to raise awareness and find a cure for Peutz-Jeghers Syndrome. In addition, we also help families whose children are already stricken with cancer and others who are in need. In six short years, Rare is Beautiful has donated over $230,000 in an attempt to accomplish this mission. Peutz-Jeghers Syndrome (PJS) is a rare genetic disease which affects the STK11/LKB1 gene that suppresses tumor growth throughout the body. As a result, the risk for cancer is multiplied significantly. Maintenance and surveillance, along with continuous surgical procedures are mandatory in detecting the presence and removal of polyps which may become cancerous tumors. One in 300,000 people are diagnosed with PJS. Please support the Borough of Beards campaign and in turn support Rare is Beautiful find a cure for PJS.
